Tour 1

RENNES-LE-CHATEAU

Dates Tuesday 18th - Tuesday 25th September 2012
Duration: Eight days

£1850.00

30th YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE PUBLICATION OF "HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL" AN EXCLUSIVE TRIP LED BY THE MAN WHO STARTED IT ALL

HENRY LINCOLN will lead a SMALL GROUP visit to Rennes-le-Chateau
Tuesday 18th September to Tuesday 25th September 2012

Cost £1,850.00 (Eight days) inclusive of absolutely everything! (who else offers that?) With good accommodation and food (including wine) at the fabled tranquillity of the ancient Bishop's Palace, you would be hard-put to do this adventure on your own for less. Of course

It IS ALREADY TOO LATE TO MEET MOST OF THE ORIGINAL "MYSTERY MEN" - ALL NOW DEAD. The witty intellectual genius that was The Marquis Philipe de Cherisey; the late intellectual will-o-the wisp that was Pierre Plantard. The author Gerard de Sede. There is no shortage of newcomers claiming to know everything, and producing little that is valid. And so, the MYSTERY CONTINUES. HENRY LINCOLN alone of the original crew survives.

Rennes-le-Chateau - Group visit led by the co-author of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail - HENRY LINCOLN. In deference to those who have never been on one of our initiatory tours, we must re-visit the important places that feature in the mystery and geometry. We re-visit the fabulous walled-city of Carcassonne, the very last Cathar stronghold perched on the dizzy heights of Montsegur where over 200 Cathar's preferred being burned alive to Catholicism! And where according to author Otto Rhan the Holy Grail itself was protected, and the late Elizabeth van Buren wrote of a "door through time." Perhaps accessible to you? We will be privileged to visit, amongst many other things, one of the few remaining genuine Templar Churches....

Numbers must always be restricted because of the need to use a small vehicle to negotiate mountain passes, but also because Henry Lincoln does not believe it possible to confide on a one to one basis with large numbers. Autumn is the ideal time to visit Rennes-le-Chateau with its most beautiful muted golden-brown, red and green and, usually, weather equivalent to a good summer. School holidays will be finished leaving the area in its most alluring, tranquil and 'magical' wonder.    Early booking is desirable to ensure your place.

Henry Lincoln is almost the last important person in this mystery still alive whilst older witnesses to this strange and enduring mystery, who treasured memories of the abbe Sauniere have now passed away. Without being morbid, one never knows when the last chance to discuss it personally with him may be. All things have their season. "Gather ye rosebuds whilst ye may...", BUT!!! What on earth has PunkRock Drummer RAT SCABIES got to do with all this?

The Sauniere Society is a non-profit making Society for Research and dissemination of knowledge in the quest for truth. To secure your place send the full cost of the visit to: The Secretary, Sauniere Society, Arpinge Court, Folkestone, Kent CT18 8AQ 2007.

Words from John Millar:

Here it is, my attempt at reporting from the tour  (diary-style):

Sept 27th
Train to Munich & flight to Toulouse.
About 30 minutes delay.  Strangely,  our suitcases are to be found on a belt of which the sign claims the baggage comes from "Francfort".  Good thing I have a blue one which hits the eye.
Outside,  thankfully,  the tour group are still waiting for us,  so we say hello to Joy & John & Rat  (all of whom we'd met before)  and introduce ourselves to the others.  Seems like a nice group.
The bus takes us to Alet-les-Bains,  where the hotel L'Eveche is placed, a former bishops palace,  very close are the ruins of an old Cathedral, what an impressive place to stay in!
After unpacking,  we go downstairs and are offered an aperitif.  Henry Lincoln introduces himself to the group and talks a bit about Rennes-le-Chateau and the theories around it  ("Don't'  believe a word" is a sentence by Henry still ringing in my ears).
The meals and the wine are excellent  (throughout our whole trip).

Sept 28th
Lecture by Henry in the morning outside of the hotel.  Still a bit cool, but the sun is warming us up.
Drive to Montazels,  the village where Sauniere was born.  On the hilltop towards the south we can see Rennes-le-Chateau.  Can't wait to get there, but today we have other plans:
We visit a rocky hill by the road between Serres and Arques, where once there was a "tomb" said to be the one in the Poussin painting "Shepherds of Arcadia".  The perspective is astonishingly similar to the painting, we all can see it.
We have lunch on the "place de deux Rennes" in Rennes-les-Bains.  It is hot weather and thus it's nice to be sitting outside having lunch. Henry takes us to the graveyard  (Sauniere's friend Henri Boudet used to be the priest here).
Later, we walk up through the woods to the hills of Rennes-les-Bains to visit the "Devil's Armchair" and the "Trembling Rock".
Then we look at an ancient bath house  (Rennes-les-Bains is well-known for its sources since Roman times,  or even longer)

Sept 29th
We visit a small cave near Arques and then the impressive Castle of Arques.
We climb the mountain "La pique"  (in the heart of Henry's "pentacle of mountains").
Picknick in Rennes-le-Chateau,  then we sit a while in the garden  (cafe) of Villa Bethania,  before we visit the churchyard,  the church itself and the museum,  all explained to us in detail by Henry. View from the "Tour Magdala" is amazing.
Back at the hotel,  we have "Cassoulet" for dinner - we were told this is a "winter dish",  so I'm glad we can try this in late summer.  It's excellent.

Sept 30th
We do some sightseeing in Alet-les-Bains   (old houses,  the Cathedral, cemetery etc.).
Drive to Limoux  (Church with Black Madonna and a "healing source" nearby).
Next up is Carcassonne with its mediaeval "Cite",  which is very beautiful. We have lunch on the "place du marcou",  then everyone has
time to do what they want. We explore the streets,  church and walls of the mediaeval town together with Rat and Cathy.

Oct 1st
Short stop at the mount Bugarach to take a few photos. Then it goes on through the amazing "Gorges de Galamus", where we visit the Eremitage. Next stop is Castle Queribus   (+picknick). We enjoy the view from the top of the tower.
Another castle: Puilaurens, a steep climb but also very beautiful there. Short stop at Axat to visit the grave of H.  Boudet.
A few of us visit the local church in Alet-les-Bains to witness an "expression dance".

Oct 2nd
Henry takes us to the church St Salvaire.  Strange atmosphere there... On to another church:  St Antoine,  a former Templars church in Campagne-sur-Aude.
Then we're back again in that special place:  Rennes-le-Chateau.  Lunch in the restaurant of Tobi and Gerda   (good meal),  then we have time on our own. We use this to re-visit the museum and take a closer look at all the photos etc.
We're invited to taste some wines at the domaine "Castel-Negre". Oct 3rd
Drive to Montsegur, where we climb the mountain and enjoy another great view from the castle, whilst thinking of the Cathars who were under siege here.
After a picknick,  we go to the source of Fontestorbes,  an intermitting source,  so when the water stops running a bit,  there is the possibility to walk into the cave on stones. Astounding.
Another castle waits for us:  Puivert, with an interesting exhibition of musical instruments and their equivalents carved in stone.

Oct 4th
Drive to the airport & time for bye-byes.
It's been a wonderful tour and a great experience.  Incredible how much you can see in just a few days!
